Samantha Munro completed her masters degree at Rhodes University, with a focus on participatory art. Her interests lie in delegated performance, installation and site-specificity, particularly sites which have everyday functions, such as the generic yet intimate space of the home or the functional yet communal space of the municipality hall. These installations, which have previously consisted of film, sound and interactive media, aim to interrupt, question or highlight how these spaces are used. Munro’s delegated performances are anchored around exploring the relationship between the spectator and performer arising within these spaces rather than upon the stage. Some of her primary concerns are the themes of familiarity, strangeness, voyeurism and dislocation and she appreciates art that includes collaboration and audience participation.
